And we’re hosting the Olympics?

The chaos following the opening of Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 is only the most recent in a long history of failure of the UK to get any major project right.

We can remember the Dome fiasco, the Wembley Stadium disaster, the Passport Office computer fiasco, and many, many others in which the project was completed long after the promised date, the cost rocketed, and the result was flawed..

And now, if you please, Britain is to host the Olympic Games in 2012 . We were told originally that the cost would be £3 to £4 billion – the latest estimate is £8 billion, and no doubt this estimate will soon be doubled or trebled, and the actual cost will be much more still.

Have you seen the 2012 ‘Olympic Logo’, which cost millions and could have been designed by a seven year old child for nothing – a worrying portent of waste and mismanagement to come.

And yet we cannot afford to provide adequate care for our old people, or medication for many cancer patients – madness or what ?

Chosen Answer:

I totally agree with you…I don’t want to have the Olympics in London. Ken Livingstone and Seb Coe just want to have a legacy, that they brought the games to London….no matter what the cost!

This country knows how to waste money on unnecessary and frivolous rubbish. I’m also incensed about the amount of money wasted on the things you mentioned.

What we need is a permanent place for the Olympics to be held and only when the site becomes way outdated should we consider moving it to another venue. It sure would make a lot more sense. I do like to see how the different countries handle the issue it is funny sometimes.

Not ONE country has ever made profit from the Olympics. Athens is still reeling in debts from it even now when they hosted it. Its just a bit of kudos to make the politicians feel better. Its a waste of money and will turn out to be a shambles and over spend to the maximum.

A few teathing problems are to be expected on such projects.

The difference between the UK and other counties is the way the press report things.

The UK press ALWAYS look for the negatives and seem to hate anyone who is a success in their field.

    Other countries rejoice in success.

Take a balanced view, the grass is not always greener elsewhere, they just tell you it is.
