Why is the Western world against the advancement of China and India?

Several months until China hosted the Olympics, the Western world cried about China’s “invasion” of Tibet. These people came out in protests and demanded the boycott of Chinese goods and cancellation of China’s Olympics.
And a week ago when the Indian Space Agency sent a rocket to the moon, many Westerners criticized their government for not making poverty reduction the first priority.
And recently the Western world has been crying about Global Warming. Not because America was the biggest pollutant for many years (that was fine with them), but because the Chinese and Indians have started to pollute (as a result of their growth).

Question: Why is the western world against their advancements? Why can’t they just admit that China and India are the next two future powers?
Adam, China will leave Tibet once you get your troops out of the Middle-East and other foreign countries. Deal? Didn’t think so.
As far as India goes, I fully support their technological advancements. Let me say this: when Europe was advancing, most of their population wasn’t exactly rich or even “middle-class.”

China and India will be major powers in the future. Some people have a problem facing it. There’s not a thing your big bro, the United States, can do about it, let alone the EU.
Adam, I never insulted you. I attacked your argument. You complain about our invasion of Tibet? Fine. How about you get your troops out of Iraq, Afghanistan, Jordan, Kuwait, and the rest of the world before complaining about our invasion? And if you’re an American, give the land to the natives and head back to Europe. You can’t simultaneously support your aggressive wars and complain about China’s invasion of Tibet.
I have no problem with the United States or the EU becoming our competitor. Competition is good and results in many breakthroughs. But do NOT tell us what to do. You’re NOT our adviser.
Kit Fang, America does not put money before the rights of the people? Say that to the Bush Administration and read a document called the Patriotic Act. :)
Kit Fang, one more thing – stop torturing people in Guantanamo Bay. Stop invading. Pay for the oil like China, India, and Russia are doing.

Iraq was none of your business. It never threatened you in ANY WAY yet you chose to invade it. So how can you justify the Iraq war yet be against our invasion of Tibet? Hypocrisy at its best.

Chosen Answer:

China and India are a threat to the wests status in the west, its the same as France and Spain at the start of the 17th century and Britain and Germany at the end of the 19th century and start of 20th century, the scary thing is both these resulted in the biggest wars of their time.

We’re hypocrites but what we have isn’t so great. You can probably do better than just copying the wasteful West. That is true advancement.

China did invade Tibet. How else can you refer to a situation where one country sends its army into the territory of another country, murders 1/3 of the population, and incorporates the defeated country into its own territory? People have been protesting against China’s occupation of Tibet for decades. The fact that you haven’t taken any notice of these protests until now speaks more to your own lack of perspective than anything.

China has a persecution complex. It thinks that anyone who criticizes it is simply “anti-China.” China needs to grow up and stop acting like it is perfect.

As for India, when a significant portion of your population does not even have access to clean drinking water, sending a probe to the moon seems a bit … misdirected.

Edit: Typical. You have nothing to say in defense of China’s genocide, so instead you attack me. This is called an “ad hominem attack,” and it is a classic bad argument.

Well people in th UK are fed up of their jobs going to the likes of India aswell as China & don’t like getting advice from some stupid Paki in an Indian call centre who knows nothing about what’s going on in Britain and as for the Chinese – the quality of their products are crap

Because China is Communist and their record on human rights (and animal cruelty) is appalling. India is a third world country with a huge population, rife with Government corruption and disease, lack of education and one of the main sources of pollutant CFC’s. It’s nothing to do with favouring America which is a developed country (George Bush excepted), and everything to do with the undesirability of either China or India as future powers.

Our foreign policy is decided by our rubbish Government who have little support for the wars that put our service personnel at risk for no gain to us whatsoever. It has no relation to China’s occupation of Tibet.

The average westerner only has a beef with all of our jobs going over to China and India. It is not your fault that you are all willing to do jobs for a tenth of an American’s salary. At the end of the day, we just have to become more competitive.

I do agree with you. Many of us westerners are crying about how much the Chinese suck or how India is taking all of the jobs. At the end of the day, Tibet is not our problem. If Tibet wants independence, they can go to war with you guys and fight for their independence. Otherwise, I could care less about Tibet. They don’t put money in my pockets.

As far as you all being a major power, you are already a major power. As long as we only become competitors and not adversaries, that is fine. Nobody needs war. The competition will do our country some good. It will make us more competitive and therefore much stronger than we already are.

  10. Andre C says:

China or India cant be better than the actual super power because all the biggest companies are in American or Japanese, French or German, the Chinese people only work for those companies and if they want to be super powers they need to create companies that sell all over the world and its really hard for the Chinese companies to do that because the market is full of products like the I-Phone, Dolce Gabbana clothes, Sony products, Cars made in Europe and in Japan. People buy those products because they know them and they have quality and if think thats China doesn’t have the quality and the the trust of the people in the western countries.

About the western countries trying to stop China and India development, i think when the French President (Sarkozy) said that he wasn’t going to the opening ceremony, because he was against the Tibet occupation, he said that just for the publicity and to get more votes in the next elections, but he went to the ceremony and that shows, that being against something related to China is approved by everyone in the western countries (and that Sarkozy only says bull shit).

And i think that, when India sent the rocked instead of reduct the poverty thats something that should be criticized. Why spent millions and millions in space missions while your people is starving thats immoral and sending rockets isn’t important countries like Sweden or Holand never sent a rocket and they are one of the best countries in the world to live.

PS – Everyone says that china doesn’t have free speech or they don’t follow the human rights but the Americans are the ones that bomb everyday countries, and torture people in Guantanamo sometimes without any proof.
U Americans just need to shut up because u torture and kill people everyday just to get more money.

  11. Justin says:

I have no problem with India growing and prospering, as it is a democracy with free speech.

I have a problem with that communist regime called China that has no human rights becoming dominant.

YES TO INDIA…… NO TO CHINA.

  12. Kit Fang says:

Because China is opressing the people of Tibet, is taking away their human rights to demonstration, free speach, national self determination etc. and that is just not acceptable.
The power of the West is not built on people being paid one dollar a week, working in conditions that I would not keep an animal in, let alone a human being, and living in houses made of whatever they can get their hands on, because the government is doing nothing to help these people dying of poverty.
When the West was first polluting the atmosphere, we knew nothing of global warming. Now we do, and it is beyond irresponsible for China and India and anyone else for that matter to follow this route, when not only is it environmentally dangerous, but economically unstable (the oil and coal isn’t going to last for ever, after all).

You say that the invasion of Iraq was an agressive war, but we were removing a dictator and giving the Iraqi people back their lives and their rights. In Tibet China is doing the exact opposite.

The West has no problem with the growth of China or India, just the way in which they are going about this growth – people need to come first, not wealth, and whilst China’s economy is getting richer, its people are still living in poverty, starving to death in slums and sweat shops.

Just accept that China’s actions are inexcusable. We don’t live in the 19th century any more, but the 21st, and poverty is no longer acceptable, in the West, or in China or India. At least we did not put money before the rights of our people.

  13. Beyond brainwashing says:

    Because they are a threat!!!
Do your history any county in the world that was ever a threat to the US politically, military or economic they obliterate.

First step is they send in negotiators to try and bribe, persuade and threaten the current leaders to do as the US says.
Second step when the first doesn’t work, sent is an assassination squad to take out the leader and put in stodge. Saddam Husein was the employed by the CIA to assassinate the then Iraq leader. Saddam failed and was wounded himself. The US then did it themselves and put Saddam in place so that they could get his oil cheap. But Saddam was distancing himself from the US and raising oil prices. Then Rumsfeld and Rothschild encouraged Saddam to invade Kiwet (cant spell it) by selling him huge arms deals. The rest is history and the US has a big say in the middle east oil revenues.

  17. Vash says:

Brainwashed sheep think China invaded Tibet in 1950s.

China did invade Tibet…during Qing Dynasty(1644~1912).

Confirm this yourself -> google keyword “Qing Dynasty map”.

After you see the result…oops right?

Here is also another proof that China had Tibet as a part of it all along…before the “invasion” in 1950s.
Here is an American propaganda film released in 1944 during WWII. It unintentionally included a map of China during WWII which was ruled by Jiang Kai Shek’s KMT.
(Check the time around 4:23 into the video)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tOtVQ7cNWY
Oops again, right? Tibet was also on ROC’s map before communists established RPC!!

The whole “free Tibet” campaign is a CIA conspiracy started in 1950s right after the communists won the civil war in 1949.
Confirm this is also simple -> google key word “CIA Tibet”. You’ll see.

To the one who said Chinese took away Tibetans’ rights to demonstrate, free speech…etc. What the heck? Did they ever have such rights under Dalai Lama? It was a feudal society until Dalai Lama fled to India after failed an armed uprising backed by CIA.

Have you ever heard of “free speech” and “right to demonstrate” in a feudal society??? What a joke! They even had slaves. Dalai Lama was not just a “spiritual leader”, but also a political leader. As a monk, he did not live in a temple as a monk should be…instead he lived in a luxury palace while the majority Tibetan population were extremely poor and 90%+ were serfs who were bound to the land owned by elites. The elites, mostly fled with Dalai Lama and now are the ones scream the loudest about “free tibet” because they lost all the rights they had such as owning slaves.
